Bubbles are a tricky business…

Tuesday morning saw the kids experiment with bubbles in their morning play, after an idea for a bubble party was imagined by one of the very clever Group A children. So, in the morning shade of the playground, various bubble making points were established, and everyone had a wonderful time creating and blowing, popping and catching.

Some children discovered that the more that bubbles were whisked in the water trough, the more they created – which resulted in some fast and furious beating in the water, making mounds of glassy, rainbow reflected bubbles. They also discussed pace – does whisking slower make just as much bubbles as whisking fast?

A bubble station was also set up, with little pots of mixture, and different shaped wands to dunk in. Herein lies the tricky part: sometimes, blowing gently did nothing; and blowing fast made the thin almost-bubble pop. Dipping the wands and agitating them in the mix seemed to lessen the bubble creating effectiveness; and some were just way too close to the wand, bursting the new bubbles with pursed lips! But the children were wonderfully persistent, and in the end, we had cascades of ethereal bubbles, all beautiful and fairy-like in the sunlight....

Easter Party Fun

A sunny afternoon, a generous table spread with homemade food, and our 2013 Willmore families – some meeting for the first time, others reconnecting with old friends – what a perfect way to end the weekend, and to celebrate Easter!

Nearly all our Willmore children (and some sisters and brothers) attempted the egg and spoon races – some, very cleverly, sprinting towards the finishing line, hand over their bright eggs to stop them from falling from the spoon! But no matter the winner, or how many times little hands dropped the eggs during the race, all enjoyed a gooey chocolate Easter egg (slightly melted from the heat of the day).

The best parts? Frosty cold iceblocks, dripping down chins and all over hands; finding as many brightly coloured sticks as possible during the egg hunt; the beautifully wrapped raffle parcels; and little friends whirling and climbing, laughing, sharing and shouting under the shade of the gum trees.

Many thanks to the Fundraising committee for organising such a lovely afternoon out; and a big thank you to all our Willmore parents for their generosity in supplying all of the wonderful raffle prizes, and for your support!

A new year at Willmore

It’s been a little while since our Willmore blog has been updated – and our beautiful kindy has had lots of spaces renovated and updated too!

In 2012, the fairy garden What-A-Mulla-Balumbeer (Hello and Welcome to the Place of Butterflies) was created, a collaboration between our very imaginative children, hardworking parents, and always-visionary staff. The project has added a series of secret, magical play spaces for the children, and features a wishing well, fairies, toadstools, hand-drawn butterflies, and many small, special things hidden in amongst leaves and branches.

In 2013, new friends explore our kindy; indoor spaces are light-filled and brimming with possibility - small hands and big imaginations build cities, fly planes, and test out new technologies…

…and together, in the warm autumn sunshine, friends learn about music, rhythm, sharing and collaboration.

Young creatives sculpt, draw, construct and create the beautiful and inventive things that adorn our room –

Slowly, we get to know one another. And together, we grow in this wonderful, imaginative place. I wonder what kind of adventures we’ll get up to this year?
